At creative workline we define our products in two ways: products for customers and own products. With our highly driven team we are constantly improving our products. The products we make for customers are limited to a deadline, but the best thing about our own products is: these are ongoing projects and we can keep on improving them.
SimpleMapp is a cross-platform app (iOS, Android and Web) which provides our end users the possibility to find interesting locations, everywhere, anytime. It also supplies the tool to users who want to share their locations via the nummerous in-apps. To top that, we can deliver this tool to anyone who wants to have an own app in the Apple App Store of Google Play Store.
The technique behind SimpleMapp is ahead of our competition and therefore v1.0 as it is now is just the beginning.
To refer back to the fact that we are allways improving our products, we analysed the product SimpleMapp as it is at this point. The first thing we said is: “This app can do so many things, but so many other apps are just better designed”. And the lesson we have learned in our experience is: the end user doesn’t care about how it works in the code, the end user is triggered by how it looks. So the first step towards V2.0 is a redesign for SimpleMapps 1.1 version.
Apples iOS 7/8 and Googles Material Design
Apple and Google are suppling our work, for their platforms we are creating our products. They often set the standard for the new generation apps. We compared our SimpleMapp as it is now with the visual improvements Apple, Google and our competition made and we realised that the first thing we need to do is: redesign the app.
The approach for redesign the app was only to redesign the user interface. The system behind it works good as it is. We have choosen to let colours speak for the content and bring the whole design better together. With new icons, new use of typography, new use of whitespacing, new way of using images and other little style elements we attend to provide you and other end users a richer experience of exploring your surroundings. Below you can take a look at the preview of the app.

SimpleMapp – current design and new design
We would love to hear your thoughts about the redesign, so please comment, like or share this post.
We hope you are as excited as we are about the new design, but we are more happy if you can give us some proper feedback and what you really think.
